Guide sections

The guide is organized into four themes. “Regions” covers how the country is laid out: the coast, the Bay of Kotor, the mountainous north and Lake Skadar, along with Podgorica and Cetinje. “Transport” covers intercity buses, car rental, switchback roads and parking. “Nature and safety” covers national parks, mountain trails, water, fire and the emergency number. “Customs and etiquette” covers how to behave in old towns, churches and small villages so that you remain a welcome guest. Each theme gathers cards that link to the relevant pages, and at the bottom of this page you'll find a tip on where to start if your trip is still just an idea.

It helps to think of Montenegro as four different landscapes packed into a small space: the sea, the bay, the mountains and the lake. Each has its own pace, and that pace deserves respect.

How we choose content: each page is useful for independent travel and doesn't require the services of an intermediary; it names no companies, hotels, restaurants, carriers or apps; it gives no costs, distances, travel times or temperatures in numbers; it doesn't summarize entry rules but points readers to official websites; specific facts come only from verified sources, and everything else is described in general terms.
